Bravo, Tim! I learned a lot from your research. Thanks! What I already knew, however, is that “Potty Politics” is yet another nom de guerre for the policy extremists- those thumpers upon whom the concept of utilitarianism is lost entirely.
Here’s the truth … ask any dad how hard it’s been to find a changing table in the men’s room; ask a single father how uncomfortable it is when his little girl has to go, right now!; ask any mom about the profound anxiety she feels when her little boy goes into the men’s room alone to make a #2; then ask the segregationists if they would make unisex restroom exceptions in these scenarios … Because when it comes to taking care of business, what’s under the hood is truly no one else’s business.
Public restrooms serve a utilitarian function, one that shouldn’t be segregated. Let folks use the bathroom for goodness sake! It seems only fair since we let the haters keep their voter registration cards.
