In my experience, and hopefully never your experience, ID thieves can (all too easily) change your mail to a forwarding address so that credit card statements and offers, utility bills, bank statements, insurance invoices, etc. are temporarily sent to some fake PO Box in a state far, far away. My mail carrier actually brought it to my attention, thankfully, but it’s an easy, effective, low-tech tactic that’s rarely mentioned yet a pain in the ass to recover from.
