My Big Themes/Predictions for the Rise (or embrace) of ‘The Information State’ in 2016.
How does the song go? “It was a very good year…” I’ll leave the singing to Old Blue Eyes, and take my bright eyes into our new year — 2016.
2015 was trying, telling, expensive, hackable, and forward-moving. But before diving into my shortlist of themes/predictions for 2016, I must also introduce myself.
Many have met me wearing my technologist/futurist hat, some in the facilitator /capture specialist seat, more as a marketing maven, and others deeply entrenched all things data, connected device, hardware, deep n dark web, defense/reconnaissance — deftech — intelligence — warfighter (crisis and emerigency relief) + operative, satellites, and design & social entrepreneurship.
The greater goal that I had been shaping the last year to form, was behind the big mission of a new branch of government, as well as influencing its need internationally, that represents our modern and future times fairly while keeping safety & security at the top of it’s protocol.
This is The Information State. It is something both diplomatic and technical in nature — terrestrially and extra-terrestrially speaking, it is something domestic, local, statewide, and individual. It is a bridge. It is interconnected, it is business driven and it speaks similar languages. It has new rules and a set of modern protocol and businesses that need new insights to reach refaced benchmarks. It needs proper leadership and lobbies behind it.
It needs a place to turn. It requires a leader that is connected across industries, that is seeing products, meeting academics, facilitating introductions, inspiring new thinking methods and practices, and making action calls that set the industry. It requires someone who has a grasp on both the domestic/civilian and the government front and perhaps most importantly, someone who can speak, carry, and hold relationships between a multitude of actors, leaders, be ahead of the curve. They must have a varied background and a lifestyle that has been touched by and that has been built around relationships with many types of people and be comprised of rarified exposure points and challenges. For now, until this is an office of governance or in establishment within a department, I am the interim Secretary of the Information State.
We run as a firm and we exercise big goals. We know many different communities and we are swinging into the information economy answering our own call and trying to engage and bridge communities.
So without further ado, please delight into looking to the Information Economy for these next twelve months. I present to you just a few flavors (obviously not all) predictive “yes, really”s that are coming around the bend in 2016.
- HYGIENIC DESIGN PRACTICE + SECURING INTERFACE
- REPUTATION + STEERED AI + INSURANCE
- MICRO SATS, WIDESPREAD USE OF GEOSPATIAL IMAGERY, SCANNING /SENSORS, WIDE INDUSTRY RANGE OF HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGING
- DECENTRALIZATION OF THE INTERNET, THE BLOCKCHAIN, AND AMPLIFIED RESULTS/MESSAGING
- IDEATION, PARTICIPATION + SHIFTS AWAY FROM PROPRIETARY R&D AND INTO COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENTS
- PREFERENCE TO & OBSERVANCE OF JSON OVER XML
- BODY AREA NETWORKS & METRO AREA NETWORKS
- PRESERVING NET NEUTRALITY
- MAJOR PILLAR COMMAND CENTERS — ACCESS POINTS AND STREAMLINED COMM.
- INTEGRATION, INTERACTIVITY & COMMUNICATION OF CROSS-PLATFORM EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Here’s a final question to perhaps shape the framework for these industries modalities of communicating with each other. What can we observe from nature and draw from it? A few things to draw parallels on how networks, connected devices, data structures, mining efforts, targeting perhaps work: Nesting (home/safety), nurturing, deception, selection, curiosity, escape, fear, elation, beauty, duality.
BRING IT ON 2016! There are so many possibilities out there for the bridging of new tech, def-tech, and our see-sawing world.
