All hands on deck!
3 sisters is a sophisticated, sustainable system that provides long term soil fertility and healthy food for our residents. Widespread among Native American farming societies, we will be carrying on the tradition at one of our locations by interplanting corn, beans and squash in the same mounds this Wednesday at Aure Winery in Beamsville.
We currently have close to one acre tilled, and are almost ready to go, all we need to do now is spread out the compost you see in the picture above and form our mounds to plant the seeds. Because this is part of a larger research project, we will only be using compost for one half of the plot, and the other half will remain as is. (More information to come).
If you or anyone you know would be interested in lending a hand and learning more about these plants compliment each other, please come join us this Wednesday at 11am.
