Smartcasual meets Nick Zieber

Meet Nick Zieber, Consultant at Xpand Group. You can also find Nick on his personal twitter profile (@nzieber).

At Xpand I am working with early-stage ventures aka “startups” to successfully recruit and hire their technical teams. I am always on the lookout for developers of all seniorities who are eager to learn and enjoy working on teams. Meeting people is a big part of what I do every day and I have to quickly identify strengths so that I can make the best recommendations to both my clients and candidates. Since recruitment is a collaborative process, I spend a substantial amount of time learning about the inner workings of various organisations.
In my spare time I’m also helping to build the Product Hunt community in Hong Kong by hosting meetups and teaching makers about how they can get exposure by leveraging the Product Hunt platform.

Why do you use the app? Are you hoping to meet people with any specific profile?

There are so many apps in existence right now, but the strength of Smartcasual is the team behind it. Hong Kong is a vibrant place for professionals, but it can be hard to know who is approachable. Smartcasual makes it really easy to arrange a meeting with people you may have heard of but never had the right excuse to meet.

Who have you met using Smartcasual?

Recently I had the chance to meet Tak Lo after reading the bio published on Medium, and it was a great experience. I found that we both had a similar vision for what is possible in Hong Kong over the coming decade. Overall, the time was very productive and I’m thankful to the Smartcasual team for bringing to light an interesting person like Tak.

What can you offer other people who meet you?

I think it’s safe to say that I’m fairly Pan-Asia at this point in my career and have some really valuable connections. I’m happy to help people in general, whether it’s learning more about the startup community here and different company cultures, advice on job searching, or some good ol’ fashioned travel recommendations.

Has anything positive for your business come out of any of your meetings?

It may be too early to tell, but I’m very optimistic about the future. This is such a great time to live and work in Hong Kong and I imagine the good meetings will continue.

Would you recommend Smartcasual to your friends?

Yes, I would encourage my friends to offer up their time in addition to trying to meet people. Everyone has something to offer. For this platform, it’s important to foster a mindset that encourages giving back to the community.

We would like to thank Nick for his support and feedback. We hope he continues adding value to his business with our app.
