Smart underground waste containers

During our recent trip to Seoul, South Korea we have discovered that unlike in Europe, there are not so many waste containers on the streets (perhaps they are mostly placed inside the buildings?) , however we found these intelligent underground containers installed near the office buildings in Pangyo Techno Valley.

It seems they use a simple RFID card that opens the lid and paying residents are able to throw the garbage sacks inside.

But more on that, they seem to be equipped with some sort of fill-level sensors monitoring how full the containers are — as you can see in one of the pictures a red button is lit and says ¨Full¨ meaning it won´t open the lid for other waste.

We at SmartUp Cities offer a similar solution to monitor waste containers by using fill-level sensors and an intelligent platform for reporting and route generation for garbage trucks.
