Fincher’s Five

It’s a fantastic Friday for five favorite films from Fincher!

I really admire David Fincher. The guy was a great director of music videos, and then he was attached to Alien 3. The studio pushed him around and he had a terrible experience making that film. After that, he decided to make HIS own movies. No one’s pushing him around anymore, and he takes control so that he can make the movie he wants to make.

Fincher pays such great attention to detail which really makes his films unique. I’m not saying this, but I could see one referring to him as a modern day Kubrick. Again, I’m not saying this, but I could understand someone making this claim. Fincher knows what he wants, which is a very admirable in a director.

So here we go with my top five favorite Fincher films. Try saying that FIVE times fast…get it?

5. Zodiac- B+

I think this is a very well made mystery film. I love a good mystery, and in a good mystery you need a great script, great actors, and of course a great director. I really love the style of this film, and the cast is incredible. Check this movie out, guys! I will say this film is VERY slow paced which may bore a few viewers, but it’s still a fine film!

4. Gone Girl- A-

Wow! This film tore me apart! I had so many emotions when this film was over and Affleck proved that he is a solid actor. However, this is Rosamund Pike’s film. She is so interesting, even though her character (no spoilers) may not be a great person. This is a solid film and one of Fincher’s finest. Once again, this film struggles with pacing and isn’t very re watchable, in my opinion. Still, it’s worth your time.

3. Fight Club- A

Brad Pitt and Ed Norton have PERFECT chemistry. I think this is the film that really proved that Fincher is a film maker who wants to change the game. This film has one of the greatest plot twists of all time and you really won’t see it coming! My big flaw with this film is that the second half isn’t as good as the first. Also, Marla really gets on my nerves. I know that she’s supposed to, but it works a little too well.

2. The Social Network- A+

I was not excited for this movie. This was before I was really interested in directors and writers. I thought that this was going to be a boring waste of time. I couldn’t have possibly been more wrong! This movie is terrific! This film has some of the best characters, writing, direction, and editing I have ever seen. Eisenberg is on fire in this movie and I truly think he was robbed at the Oscars in the best actor category. I can’t believe I’m say this, but Justin Timberlake is excellent in this film! This movie makes a potentially unlikable person such a compelling character. A perfect script under perfect direction makes this a fantastic film!

  1. Se7en- A+

The first Fincher film I ever saw! This movie blew me away, because to me this is the perfect mystery thriller. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman have such great chemistry and as a result, I just truly love every scene in this film. Also, we have an amazing villain who gives us one of the best endings in cinema. This proved that Fincher didn’t need anyone telling him what to do. This is, once again, perfect casting, perfect directing, and all around perfection.
