Wind River review
When a Native American girl is found dead, a haunting investigation begins.
When I saw Sicario, I think I held my breath for the two hour run time. I was so captivated by the story, characters, and brutality of the film. When I saw Hell Or High Water, I was on the edge of my seat! I was so captivated by the story, characters, and brutality of the film. So when I heard that the writer of both those films (Taylor Sheridan) had a new film coming out, I had to see the film. I had only heard a review, but I didn’t see any trailers, or read any plots lines. I knew that I was going to see this one, and Wind River did not disappoint. I was so captivated by the story, characters, and brutality of the film.

Right off the bat, I have to say that this film is filled to the brim with terrific performances! Jeremy Renner shines by delivering an incredibly subtle performance and I must say that this is the best performance that I’ve seen from Renner yet. He also had impeccable chemistry with Elizabeth Olsen! I feel like Olsen hasn’t had the chance to shine, until now! I always thought that she was talented, but this is a potential game changer for her. Gil Birmingham plays a father going through sorrow and he does so much with maybe six minutes of screen time. Like I said, terrific performances.
Taylor Sheridan is directing his own screenplay for the first time in his career, and he does a good job! Sheridan isn’t quite as ambitious with his direction as David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) or Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) but he still does a fine job! I will say that some of the expository dialogue is just a little clunky. There are a few lines that sound more like a script than actual people, but there are also scenes with truly incredible dialogue.
One of my favorite elements of the film was the location. It was August…but when I saw all of the snow, and the mountains on the screen, I was feeling the cold. The location is very much a main character in the movie. While watching this film I was definitely invested, but I was thinking that this film wasn’t as intense as Sheridan’s other films. However, leading into the third act there was a scene that was so horrifically brutal, that I actually thought that I was going to have to step out for a moment. The rest of the film was just unrelenting!
After the film, I watched some trailers just to see how this film is being marketed. This is not the action thriller that trailers are selling. Wind River is an amazingly thoughtful unpretentious film. Once the film was over I let out a very deep exhale, because I was just floored. This is one of my favorite films of the year, and I think you can expect to see it on my top ten list at the end of the year.
Wind River-A
