Meet The Maker ~ The Top Ten

With The Jam Tart

In the fifth of our Meet The Maker series we meet Durham based design duo; The Jam Tart. Who design BRILLIANT bits for bairns!

Here’s their Top Ten…

Tom & Emma ~ The Jam Tart

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself… What’s your background?

I’m a graphic designer www.dottyaboutdesign.co.uk and love sharing good design that makes people smile. I’ve worked on numerous children’s brand licences for high street stores. My wall artwork has featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs and forms part of the exterior graphics wrapped around the Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children’s Books, in Newcastle.

2. How did The Jam Tart begin?

I’m a self confessed ‘typ-o-holic’ and since becoming a Mama thought it was time I combined my love for type with the world of children’s design. As a Mama I set about designing colourful and educational interiors for my daughter that were an extension of our contemporary home. These have since grown into The Jam Tart typographical delights for design loving parents everywhere.

3. What’s the best thing about living & working in the North East?
The coastline is stunningly beautiful, a perfect place to share quality time with family and friends (not forgetting our four legged friends!)

4. Describe your workspace

A shared office and playroom, there’s Me (very often my 2 year old) and my trusty iMac. Animals… colour and a creative mess!

5. Who do you look to for inspiration?

I just love pattern, especially those of the geometric variety; a huge Orla Kiely fan, I love design from the 50’s and 60’s. Geometric shapes form the basis of our animal typeface.
