While this is a great quote, and historically has found it’s way to it’s current meaning, I’m surprised that you didn’t tie in your title with the quote. Newton was not being humble when he wrote this line, this was a response to Hooke, a very short man, whom had accused him of intellectual theft of his ideas.
The irony here is not that Newton new better than most, it was that the future generations use his insult as a source of inspiration.
