Time Management is Bullshit…

Times have changed but not the time itself!

I often (almost every day) have the feeling that 24 hours is never enough to manage the tasks, plans and duties that come up during the day and some of might be due for a while. My job as a product manager requires me to deal with requests and demands internally and externally — everything has to be done asap and preferably NOW. Dealing with the fact that I need 1,5 hours to get to work and not able to use the time “effectively” as I should do is another point that challenges me. To be honest, I am still struggling to find an appropriate way to have a balance between professional and private life.

That is when I realise that times have changed but not the time itself… the world seems to turn faster and there has to be a way to deal with the pressure and deadlines — a way that is faster and more flexible to adapt in a timely manner.

Asking Mr. Google for an answer does not seem to be useful — I end up feeling an aversion for all the strategies, approaches and tips they are trying to sell — on how to be more effective and to manage our time… but apart from most of the outdated theories…. is this really necessary that we ALWAYS HAVE to be more EFFECTIVE…do we have to meet the deadline someone set for us? Do we have to prioritize…is that even possible nowadays to prioritize instead of rather working towards an emergency plan?

I prefer the way to work in “sprints” (as one of the agile approaches) or maybe in a sequence of sprints for a certain period of time and then take some time off to recover, take time for yourself and your private life.

However, I am still figuring out to find a best way to cope with time and requirement management… but what I am quite sure of is that we need a new and individualized way for that in order to find a balance and still able to nurture our social life…

In the end of our life we are not regretting the tasks we have not finished or the deadline we haven’t met in our job but the time we did not spend with our family, friends and love ones….and maybe haven’t spent enough time to travel and see the world…this is something that is much more valuable than struggle to be more effective and efficient! True story…
