There is no guaranteed formula for success. But, If you take a look at the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Bill Gates etc. You can notice that their paths are as unique as they are but their way of thinking shows some interesting similarities.

These are the main traits you need to take into consideration If you want your business to succeed:

  1. First and most important trait they have in common is: Passion — they loved what they we doing and were fully committed to it. From building and implementing a prototype, to pitching your idea to venture capitalists success is a function of passion and determination. This is the key to keeping your business moving forward.
  2. Vision — ability to seize an opportunity. They see the future before the future actually happens.Their vision helps them stay few steps ahead of everybody else.
  3. Self-belief — self confidence is one of top 3 must-have traits of successful entrepreneurs, which means you need to be 100% sure that your product or service is necessary for the market.
  4. Risk Taking — entrepreneurs are high risk takers. If they see an opportunity they dive in it. But, first they do an assessment if this move is worth risking their time, money, career and what will be the consequences if it doesn’t pay off.
  5. Build your “A” team — Your surrounding is very important for your business to succeed. You must find people that are skilled but more important that share the same values and culture and that they will provide support for you and your passion.
  6. Flexibility — Your final product or service likely won’t look anything like what you started with. Flexibility that allows you to respond to changing tastes and market conditions is essential.
  7. Learn from others — Spent a couple of years working in the industry that is of your interest. Learn from somebody else’s experience. See how they solve their problems, learn from their ups and downs. Be eager for knowledge.
  8. Make a Plan (But do not over-plan) — Managing business with limited resources can be tough. At the beginning the impulse is telling you to plan everything but, you need to maintain the mindset and capabilities to deal with unexpected scenarios.
  9. The benefit of the doubt — If you have the courage to ask yourself Can I Do this? Do I want this? you are on good path on becoming an entrepreneur. Don’t try to fit the mainstream profile, but follow what your gut is telling you.
  10. Last but not least It’s never too late to start — just remember that J.K.Rowling (Harry Potter), Julia Child (chef) and Sam Walton (Wal-Mart) started their brand a little bit later in their lives. Owning the experience gained later in life can give you an unique perspective of want you want to do. That’s the advantage that educated young people can not foresee.
