My thoughts on Twitter (inspired by this recent post by @sacca http://lowercasecapital.com/2015/05/21/i-bleed-aqua/)

For me, the great thing about Twitter is access. By access I mean the ability to interact with people I couldn't normally get close too.

(In case you don't know who Chris Sacca is here's an amazing piece by @alexrkonrad ( another dude I routinely interact with on Twitter) of Forbes. Sacca is also number 3 on The Midas List ( the Midas list is also Konrad’s work). Out of the entire Midas List about 10% are somewhat active on Twitter and @sacca is among the most active.)

Where else can I interact with one of the top VC’s in tech?

Sure maybe if I had 20 years of experience I would have other methods. I’ve been in tech for only one year. I’ve also met one of my close advisors and mentors through Twitter. I now have relationships with a number of VC’s and Angels because of Twitter. I used Twitter to pester Hunter Walk into meeting me as well. I’m friends with Journalists and all around cool people because of Twitter.

Twitter is by far the best way to get access especially when you just use it and interact with people. Sure if you read this and say I'm going to raise my round through Twitter you will probably be disappointed. There was one case that I know of where a startup met a lead investor because of a tweet. Normally that doesn't happen. But if you use Twitter and interact and respond to people you will probably meet some super awesome people. It can never hurt to meet awesome people. Take my word for it.

Twitter was directly responsible for Meerkat’s initial success. Meerkat used Twitter’s social graph to grow super-fast the first couple of weeks after it launched.

Do I wish Twitter did some things better / differently? Sure I do. There is a lot that can be better. For example, filter links out of the Apple watch app so it would be somewhat usable on Apple watch. Stop recommending I follow people who don't tweet. They add little to the ecosystem. I had a long Twitter argument with Josh Elman who led growth for Twitter for a while. I still think I'm right. Sometimes it feels like Twitter is still trying to be the cool kid in high school. Hello @dickc you're in college now. Act cool!

A conversation with Josh regarding Twitter and Wall street

So while I understand that growth is important to wall street I believe Twitter will figure all of this out. The core things that make Twitter aren't changing anytime soon. As long as they don't change Twitter will continue to be a huge part of my personal and professional life. (In my opinion, Twitter has to tell a different story. MAU’s may be a good metric for Facebook I don't believe they're the right metric for twitter.) One thing I can promise you I’m sticking around here. Twitter is the best place for interacting and real-time information. Period end of story.
