The thing is, a company hires people to work. That’s the goal. They need bodies to do the tasks that keep their doors open. They make money, pay their bills, shareholders, taxes and workers. When people don’t show, the work doesn’t get done. It all rolls down hill.
We all complain about greedy corporations. How would you feel if you had a company, and you were CEO? If you had employees that couldn’t show up to work, regardless of the reason, what would be your “done” point?
I guess I get frustrated when single mother is typed over and over again for emphasis. As an employee, all of us have the same rules, kids or not.
If I worked for a company and I didn’t show, I’d get fired. They aren’t hiring our problems, they aren’t here to care for our needs. They are hiring us to do a job. If we can’t do it because we’re absent, they have to find someone who can.
If you hired a babysitter and you needed her to show every day at 8am, and she called in sick several times, what would you do? Would you stay home from work until she got her personal issues sorted out, or would you have to replace her? Be honest, how long would you wait to find someone who was able to do the job consistently for you? Even the most amazing babysitter isn’t worth a whole lot to you if she isn’t there.
It would be great if we could take care of our personal lives and be able to come and go as needed at work. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. Not for any of us.
