As you should, and I’d recommend it. The part that most people seem to forget is that your 5 mile drive for the current $5 minimum is only 5 miles for the rider. It doesn’t take into account for the 5 or 10 miles we have to drive to come get you that we drive for free, using our own gas and time which has now become a 10 or 15 mile trip which, after Uber removes all its fees, leaves us with a grand total of about $2.50 and we’ve shot the better part of half an hour. So while that $12 minimum might seem ridiculous to you, given Uber’s take out of the fare, we have to have it simply to survive. So the choice remains yours. $12 for a pleasant ride in a nice car with a friendly driver, or $20 for a cab that’s trying to dump you out of his rehashed state vehicle as fast as he can AND he’s going to be expecting a tip. As it stands now, if we don’t get a tip, we’re not even going to break even.
My point is, the only three times that I’ve used Uber, the driver drove me maybe 5 miles to pick up…
