State Director Chris Covert’s Statement on State Sen. Marlon Kimpson (D-Charleston) Legislative Package
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Bernie Sanders South Carolina state director Chris Covert released the following statement on state Sen. Marlon Kimpson’s legislation to pass a $15 minimum wage and comprehensive gun reforms.
“Bernie Sanders’ South Carolina campaign supports state Sen. Marlon Kimpson’s legislation to enact a $15 minimum wage. South Carolinians should unite in demanding a livable wage and serve as an example to the rest of the nation that no American who works 40 hours a week should be forced to live in poverty. Sen. Kimpson’s common-sense proposals to ban assault weapons, strengthen background checks and implement a gun registration system would help address the tragic impact of gun violence on Charleston and keep citizens across South Carolina safe. The legislature should act swiftly to stem the rising tide of gun violence in America.”
