Hey cryptoexplorers! For this months update I wanted to answer a couple of questions and share some of the gameplay that gamers and fans have been asking about for the new game under development.

What will the gameplay be like?

A lot of the cryptogames that are out or coming out soon involve a lot of collecting virtual pets or making pets to fight other pets. That’s not what Age of Rust is, our game is a first person adventure game where you solve puzzles, explore vast areas, and if your lucky, find a treasure in cryptocurrency. A lot of people compare the game to Myst, which in some cases is close in comparison.

Certain places you travel to are either exploratory, where you seek clues to puzzles and mysteries that unlock other areas or clues to the treasure in the game. Some of these puzzles are complex and difficult to solve, others are progress based, where you unlock a door to head to somewhere you haven’t been yet. These places are linked together throughout the storyline of the game. So as you visit and explore each of the locations, more of the story is revealed. These places take place throughout the Age of rust universe, so there are planet surfaces, caves, space stations, and abandoned ships that you can explore.

Other levels are more combat focused where in order to progress and unlock another area, you need to fight your way through. To do that, you need weapons and other gear that you use in the game, or you can use a weapon that you own on the blockchain. This might be a weapon you earned in another game or one that you specifically own on the blockchain for Age of Rust. In these combat-focused areas, you have health and other things you need to be aware of to survive.

How will rustbits and the rustchain cards be used in this game?

If you’re not aware yet, we are in the process of setting up a site that will allow you to convert your rustbits and rustchain card tokens from counterparty to ethereum in September/October this year. You’ll need to convert your tokens from Counterparty to Ethereum to play the new Age of Rust when it’s released next year. The conversion site will remain open for at least a year or longer to ensure that as many token holders as possible can convert their tokens.

One of the first early concepts of the game was to avoid a pay-to-play loop where players are continuously prompted to top-up on something in order to play the game. That’s still the planned mode that the game will operate in to keep things the way we intended. However, you’ll be able to trade and use rustbits to acquire rare and unique items from the game. Some of the game items will make solving puzzles and challenges easier.

Players with cards and rare tokens from other games (such as Pineapple Arcade and Neon District) will be able to embark on missions and access special functions that are not available to standard players. As an example, only players holding Rustchain Cards will be able to explore a special abandoned outpost.

What will be some of the things that players can do in the game?

Treasure hunting and decoding is still the main theme of the game. So you’ll be looking for clues and exploring the various settings in the universe. One of the things we want players to experience is to be able to wander around, pick up a weapon, jump into a ship and land on a planet to explore. That combined with the ability to own, trade game assets, and find crypto and other game tokens inside the game is something we see as a unique experience.
