Greek Goddess of Love, Beauty & Desire (Pleasure)

Ancient Greek mythology’s most alluring and powerful goddess is Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty, love, and desire. However, nobody knows for sure where she came from.

She was created from Uranus’s cut genitalia and arose from the sea foam in the waters of Paphos, Cyprus, according to Hesiod’s THEOGONY. When THE TITAN CRONUS killed his father Uranus and cast his genitalia into the sea, legend has it that she sprang from the foam.

Homer claims that Aphrodite in the Iliad, however, might actually be the daughter of Zeus and Dione. The gods’ origins are the subject of several myths, just like those of many other Greek deities.

Beauty Beyond Comparison

Many gods thought that because of her beauty, their rivalry over her would lead to a gods’ war. Zeus wed Aphrodite to HEPHAESTUS, the god of craftsmanship, as a result. His ugly appearance and deformities prevented him from being viewed as a threat.

Aphrodite had multiple lovers despite her union with Hephaestus. Gods and mortals alike have expressed their love for her, including the god ARES and the mortal Anchises. She was also included in the tale of Eros and Psychosis, wherein Psyche’s followers worshipped her rather than Venus, the goddess of love. Aphrodite sought retribution from EROS (CUPID) for this, but the god of love instead develops feelings for the girl.
