Avoid These 5 Mistakes When Discussing Your Comic Book Collection With A Potential Buyer

Buyer’s are not expecting you to be an expert on comics, but there are some common misunderstandings that if you avoid will show the buyer that you are a serious and informed seller.
1. “They are in their original bag” — Comic books are sold without any bags or boards. There is no such thing as an “original bag” for comic books. Bags and boards are added after a comic has been purchased from the store. You will not realize any value for bags and boards, they simply serve to keep the comic in as good condition as possible.
2. Don’t overhype — Unless you have the Mile High collection chances are that a buyer will have seen what you have many times before. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t good value in your comics or that the buyer isn’t very interested. Just because they don’t feel the collection is historic or “very important” doesn’t mean that they don’t respect your attachment, efforts and the value therein. Overhyping a collection may give a buyer the feeling that your expectations aren’t very realistic.
3. Understand what your buyer is interested in and respect that. If after some discussion, it is determined that the buyer would not be interested in what you have don’t get upset with them. It’s no reflection on you nor is it personal. Buyers make purchasing decisions based on business factors. Sometimes the value of a collection may be too low, the logistics may be too costly or labor intensive or the buyer may just be looking for someone else. Don’t take it personal and don’t get mad.
4. Leave a message! If you call a buyer or send an email, don’t stop there! Buyers like us receive many calls throughout the day. It’s possible that we are on the other line or indisposed when you try to reach us. We want to hear from you so please make sure you leave a message with as much information as you can (don’t be afraid to leave a long message).
5. Be honest. Any seller is hoping that the buyer they find will be honest and trustworthy. Buyer’s have the same hopes from sellers. If you’re calling every dealer on the internet, that’s no problem! Just be honest with the people you’re talking to so things go smooth and nobody feels misled.
