What Can You Learn From an MMA Fighter?

This Week’s Guest — www.Spartan.com/109

New This week on “Spartan Up!” — we published our interview with Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman. After wrestling in college Charlie became a high school Spanish teacher, but he missed the fight. He set a new goal, to become a UFC fighter, then took a no nonsense road to get there. He talks about the simple power of hard work and treating every opportunity, every day at work or the gym, as “it.” As the big day.

The Fighter’s Steps for Success:

  1. Don’t ever skip a day. Whether working out, eating clean or doing homework. Once you make an exception you open the door to bad habits.
  2. Surround yourself with mentors. Reach out to people who are doing what you want to do, make yourself helpful to them and learn from them.
  3. Little things add up. That one extra burpee or that one soda.
  4. Success is achievable by anyone. You don’t need a special origin story, just follow the steps.

What’s interesting to me is that Charlie is using these same steps now as he develops as a coach and speaker. He reached out to us via Twitter and then jumped at every opportunity to connect, learn and build a relationship.
