How to make a Rap mixtape.

What it really takes.

As a music producer my main clients are rappers making mixtapes so i decided to write about my opinion on rap mixtapes and invite you to think differently about your next mixtape. My friend can okan is making an incredible rap mixtape right now so i asked him what his best piece of advice is on creating a dope ass mixtape.

The advice he gave me is simple : Write a verse every day & make sure your work is original. That’s it.

This made so much sense to me because rap is like life. Execution matters. Doing things every day not only creates a great habit but also deepens your skills to an extent which you wouldn’ t think is possible.

Now Im not an expert on rapping. But I certainly believe in execution and patience.

Being original is also incredibly important in today because the access to creation tools is so easy that more people produce art. So having Art that is original & high quality is a must to stick out. Post malone, G-eazy, and logic are dope but why would people need another artist who sounds exactly like them ? So make sure you do YOU & create the style that feels like its yours . Be smart about it, adjust and don’t be scared to change course if you need to but stay in your own lane.

He also said take your time. Think about it you are putting out an creative piece of you. So take your time. Now that does not an chill at home and catch up with all 6 seasons of game of thrones. But make sure to invest your time, energy and focus actively into it .

I recently talked to Ryan keen who toured with Ed sheeran as opening act and played infront of over 18.000 People. I met him randomly on the street in sydney and we had a short chat about success in music.

What he said was that if you have a vision for where you want to go. All the obstacles in your way start to fade. They become less big and you are going to have a straight direction of where you gonna go.

So the last thought i want to leave you with is build that vision for yourself. Get your idea of a mixtape out there and make it an reality. Execute daily. And then put it out.
