Well this is really an attractive title; of course every one of us wants to learn a language in one month or even in one-day right? That is why you keep reading this, but let me tell you the secret, there is no way you can learn a foreign language in one month, forget about it, it takes commitment, time and hard work.

There are a lot of scams claiming that you can learn a foreign language in three months, one month or even a few weeks, forget about all these as they suggest that there is a short cut to do something great.

No, there is no short cut to it, you have to go through some steps like everybody else and that is why it is really self-fulfilling once you are able to communicate with people in another language.

Although there might be some tips and tricks to utilize while learning English, Spanish, French or any other foreign language, these are by no means something that will eliminate the hard work and commitment you need to put.

If it is impossible to learn a foreign language in one month then how long does it take? Well, it depends on the person, pace of the study, what one means from learning a language and many other things.

But if we average everything and assume an average person, with 40 hours per week guided study plus some speaking and listening practice in real world setup then we could argue that it may take about a little less than a year to speak and listen to non complex, everyday conversations.

What are some tips and tricks we can utilize while studying?

  1. You have to make a commitment to learn a language. You can’t do it one day and quit the other day and do it again. You have to have a stable working schedule and you should stick with it. This is easier if you have a reason to learn the language you are trying to learn. Why are you really trying to learn it? You want to go abroad and study, you want to be able to speak to foreigner in your city, you want to be a tour guide, you want to learn a new culture or what?
  2. You have to learn all aspect of a language in parallel that is; you can not just try to learn all the grammar rules and then try to learn vocabulary. You have to have a balanced study program which should definitely include speaking, listening, writing, reading as well as grammar and vocabulary building works.
  3. You should have friends or peers to motivate each other. Join a course or a practice session together and don’t give up, share experiences and have a push for each other.
  4. Use all available media tools online or offline such as podcasts, videos, games, movies, anything that might improve a learning experience.
  5. You should be ready to leave your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes in speaking, writing or reading, it is okay to do wrong that is how you will get it right the next time.
  6. Stay hungry stay foolish. This is what Steve Jobs finished his speech at 2005 Standford Commencement Ceremony. It says one of the best secrets for language learning, you have to be ambitious, motivated and courageous to be able to learn how to speak and understand a language.
