An Open Letter to Privilege

The open letter saga brought me to this platform, the great articles that I have since discovered keep my interest and the ability to speak my mind will keep me coming back.

What is privilege?

We see it (or think we do) everywhere we go, people who have things better than we do and had a better start at things or more opportunity.

What about human privilege? The privilege to be a human and be able to think and stand upright and do what you can with the life given to you? I know people that were born with very wealthy parents that have pissed all of the money away on addictions of various natures. I have seen privileged and wealthy start people also take the opportunity given to them and make more out of it. I have also seen people that come from nothing stay at nothing but I have also seen people that had nothing make a big something out of themselves.

In 2016 it’s not so cut and dry anymore. You don’t know where people came from and what kind of support system they had. Even if their parents were financially supportive, perhaps they never had any other support of an emotional nature.

Who are we to judge when we haven’t lived every moment of that person’s life? There is really no ability to actually feel and see what another does because even though situations could be similar and related as a whole, we are all in individual as fingerprints.

Social media encourages us to compare and judge ourselves to others, others to others, etc.. But what good does any of that do if we’re not using it to learn from each other? I feel this whole idea harbors a negative energy and I try my best to put a positive twist on it daily in my life.

What are ways that you try to stay positive on a daily basis and not judge yourself or others? Please share, comments welcomed.
