30 Days writing challenge, Day 19 : Broken Alarm part 4 : The smell of Coffee

Ironically, this physical alarm clock that rings at 4.am might make you suffer more than your own… That completely ruined your night. At 1 am, you were still hearing it, thinking about this strange Doctor and this 5.Am teaching.

You take 3 coffees ; get a shower and go to the meeting, in a Dojo lost in the country.

Inside you see the doctor dressed in kimono. Who does he think he is ? Morpheus ? When you get closed, he smiles at you.

The doctor “Do you want coffee?”

You “Yes I guess, I had 3 this morning, but had a bad night, so…”.

The Doctor “Enjoy it, it’s your last one, but a good one”.

The doctor gives you a beautiful porcelain cup, with steam above ; the perfume is subtle but powerful. But you see the doctor.

You : “My last one ? But why ?”

The Doctor : “It fucks up with your alarm in a way you can’t imagine… Tomorrow, you’ll replace it with infusions, and take a day off. Do you understand?”

You : “In don’t know… stopping coffee… like that… It has lot of virtues ; I read it on…”

The Doctor : “If you take one drop of coffee after this one ; you won’t see me anymore, do you understand? so do you take this one or not ; it might be the best coffee of your life, so take it has it’s hot”

You take the coffee… and smell at its perfume again. You don’t want to lose any detail. As the smell plays with your nostrils you feel the hot sensation of the cup on your hands. It’s warm, and one moment think about your childhood, these cups of hot chocolate near the fireplace after a snowball battle.

You take one sip, and its a delight, you feel good… alive. The time stops and you take your time, feeling each nuance of the flavor. What a coffee ! If it was not forbidden for reasons you don’t approve, you would have asked where to buy and stocked lots of it in your closets, just to be sure to have some for the rest of your life.

As you finish your coffee, the doctor smiles :

The Doctor : “So, this coffee?”

You : “Wow, so… great, so marvelous… I don’t know what to say”.

The Doctor : “Well, don’t say anything… Now you will replace it with anything without caffeine. And not deca, okay ?”

You : “Yeah… so, can we start?”

The Doctor : “Start what ? That’s it, you can go back home… see you in one week, same place, same time”.

You : “Okayyy… and what about my alarm”

The Doctor : Just be patient.

As the doctor indicates me the exit of the dojo, I start to think that maybe he’s playing me some kind of twisted trick… But, let’s trust the process.
