Late to the party. Here goes:
I think you could have easily titled this essay “Planet of Ghostbusters.” Why are the cops so racist and horrible and micromanaging? Could it be because they fight “crime” instead of “crimes?” Aren’t Broken Windows Policing™ and the War on Drugs™ vague battles with ghosts? With concepts? And isn’t it convenient for structural racism that the cops, in fighting a ghost, see the spirit of “crime” evenly distributed in a neighborhood where “crimes” occur too often (minus the bullshit “crimes” contrived by the police themselves)?
Police: “Of course that black person we beat/shot for his furtive movements is guilty of something, for the ghost of crime lives in everyone around here! It may as well be true! There’s a kernel of truth in our callous error!”
The language policing SJWs are the same. It may as well be true that some quote from a new scifi book or someone’s essay taken out of context proves the author is “toxic.” Privilege and bias are ghosts, manifest in everyone, so even if an accusation isn’t really true, it still may as well be “true” in a truthy way.
Ghostbusters, all of them!
