Le Tour de France on Ten Pounds — Stage 9

Despite Chris Froome surprising just about everyone with his descending yesterday to claim stage 8 I managed to make another £2.50 profit when Romain Bardet came home in fourth place. At odds of 14/1 my each way bet success takes my Tour funds kitty to £12.88.

Stage 9 of Le Tour is more Pyrenean purgatory, with three Category 1 climbs en route to a hors categorie finish in Andorra.

As such, it’s no surprise that the favourites for the stage are the same names as appeared in yesterday’s blog post:

Chris Froome (Team Sky) 21/10

Nairo Quintana (Movistar) 7/2

Daniel Martin (Etixx Quick-Step) 12/1

Richie Porte (BMC) 12/1

Joaquin Rodriguez (Tinkoff) 16/1

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) 18/1

Rafal Majka (Tinkoff) 18/1

Fabio Aru (Astana) 22/1

Romain Bardet (AG2r) 25/1

The returns for selecting Froome or Quintana are quite low, so I’m going to pick Dan Martin of Etixx Quick-Step, perhaps not in the expectation of him winning the stage but collecting a top 3 finish and giving me some return on my ‘investment’.
