The 2018 MTV EMAs Highlights You May Have Missed
The 2018 MTV European Music Awards took place this last Sunday Nov. 4, and it was all about the ladies! Some of the most prestigious categories were handed to international female powerhouses of the year including Nicki Minaj, Camila Cabello, and Dua Lipa. The over-two-hour televised show was synchronized with earth shattering performances and impactful acceptance speeches.
Hailee Steinfeld was picked to host this year’s show and her wardrobe swaps were nothing short of perfection. She arrived to the EMA’s red carpet styled in a sequined Armani Prive dress and Christian Louboutin embellished mesh pumps. She was followed by other glamorous celebrities dressed in vibrant looks. Some of the best include Dua Lipa in Saint Laurent and Camila Cabello’s red Alex Perry gown.
Nicki Minaj received the opening slot for the performances that ensued through the event. Ignoring the drama based around the ongoing feud with Cardi B, Minaj was on a positive vibe all night long — and for good reason. She won Best Look category, beating out Cardi B, and later giving another epic performance with Little Mix.
The girl group Little Mix was by far a fan favorite this year and took home the award for Best UK & Ireland Group. Before the show, Perrie was giving out free tickets to the EMAs to her fans. The foursome also seem to be respected by other artists, as Nicki Minaj gifted them a large floral arrangement after the performance which brought many to tears in the sweet gesture.
Some other notable wins include Camila Cabello who proudly accepted a total of three awards and Janet Jackson being recognized for Global Icon. The world-known legend gave one of the most moving speeches of the night, focusing on the hope for a bright future ahead.
“I accept this award with profound gratitude. To be called an icon is a tremendous honor, but one that comes with a tremendous responsibility. Tonight I feel moved to speak for women whose voices have been stifled.” She goes on to say, “I am one of those women. Women who have been gagged, both literally and emotionally. Women who have been abused. Women who have been intimated. Women who have lived in fear. I stand with you. You are my sisters.”
Overall, the night had many great moments and touched fans around the world. We too are looking ahead to see what the future holds for these talented artists.
