You Do Not Kick Someone Out Of Your Party And Then Invite Them Back In

In one of the previous articles I wrote that we will have a “Showtime in Philly”. And we have a show, however, not because of the 76ers performance.

Before each match in the NBA, we are witnessing a great exhibition where players of both home and away teams are being intoruced to the crowd. It is an excellent game of lights, usually every team has its own selected song where players running up the pitch greet with different handshakes. That is accompanied by another traditional element, namely the national anthem of the United States. And right here there was improper behavior of organisers, which is not acceptable.

Singer Sevyn Streeter was invited to sing the national anthem before the game againts the Oklahoma City Thunder to start the season. She is not a huge music super star, but even if she was it would not change a thing that what happened 2 minutes before the show is a scandal.

We all know how police treats the Afro-Americans in the United States. I also hope that we are all aware about the actions of “black lives matter” around the world, to prevent violence. Sevyn Streeter before the performance was wearing a black jersey with the number 7 and the words “we matter”.

As it turns out the organisers in Philly did not like it, first they offered to change the jersey for less controversial, and ultimately after the refusal invited one of the cheerleaders to sing the national anthem. All this has not only found a spark in the media, but also inside the organization. Here is the statement of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The anthem issue has been a major topic in the sports world in recent months, starting with the decision by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick not to stand while it is played. Kaepernick cited racial injustice and police brutality among the reasons for his protest, and athletes from many sports have followed his lead in various ways.

After all Sevyn Streeter was again invited to perform at the Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia. Next home game is on Saturday againts the Atlanta Hawks. I do not know whether Sevyn will accept to eventually perform, but the fact of the whole situation makes me very upset.

Here is what coach Brett Brown had to say after meeting the staff and the players. “If we as an organization had to do what we did again, that decision would not have been made..” “I applaud the ownership group because it happened real quickly yesterday. Immediately we had come out. … I sat with my players, I said, ‘This is what’s happened. You’ve heard it and in your perfect world, what do you wish would happen?’ And clearly there was some anxiety with that decision..” “We made a mistake and we move on..” Brown later added on behalf of the organization.

Dear Philly decision makers, please hear me now loud and clear. You do not kick someone out of your party (for whatever reason) and then invite them back in (after realisation how bad your decision was in the first place).

W jednym z poprzednich artykulow pisalem ze bedziemy mieli “Showtime in Philly”.

Piosenkarka Sevyn Streeter zostala zaproszona by odspiewac hymn przed meczem z Oklahoma City Thunder na rozpoczecie sezonu.

Swoje zachowanie tlumaczyl sprzeciwem wobec przemocy policji i opresji afro-amerykanskiej spolecznosci w US.

Zarzad klubu 76ers wydal oswiadczenie w ktorym przeprasza za zachowanie wobec piosenkarki Sevyn Streeter, ponadto ponownie zaprosil ja do wystepu w hali Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia.
