DECODING CLOUD COMPUTING SERVICE MODELS AND PIVOTAL CLOUD FOUNDRY
When we speak about Cloud computing, the first question that comes to our mind perhaps would be, how does the cloud computing service provider deliver their service to the clients?
While there are different concepts to follow, we would like to adhere to the traditional definition (which still holds good!) that the services are offered by one or a combination of the following models –
Infrastructure as a service: Base infrastructure, leaving the end user responsible for platform and environment configuration necessary to deploy applications.
Platform as a service: Helps to reduce the development overhead by providing a ready-to-use platform.
Software as a service: Gmail is a great example or a more complex Salesforce
Cloud Foundry is an open source cloud computing platform as a service (PaaS) originally developed by VMware and now owned by Pivotal Software — a joint venture by EMC, VMware and General Electric.
A different PaaS project also used the name Cloud Foundry, and was written in Java for Amazon EC2 founded by Chris Richardson founded it in 2008 and later acquired by SpringSource in 2009 (the same month VMware acquired SpringSource). The current product is unrelated to the project under SpringSource, but the name was adopted when the original SpringSource project was ended.
SpringPeople is an exclusive master partner of SpringSource (now a division of VMware APAC) for more than seven years and is the only place in India to be Pivotal Cloud Foundry certified. Be a Cloud Foundry expert and learn from Pivotal Certified Experts on:
Pivotal Certified Cloud Foundry — This comprehensive three-day course will provide competent Java developers with the skills necessary to exploit the capabilities of Pivotal Cloud Foundry
Pivotal Certified Cloud Foundry Immersion — You will experience a broad set of features encompassing operator, developer and architect perspectives from this four day course. This enables the understanding of the breadth of possibilities unleashed through agile approaches on a dynamic platform.
Pivotal Cloud Foundry is a commercial part of Cloud Foundry and it is a step ahead of the Open Source Software (OSS) with benefits of additional tools for installation and administration.
The architecture offers the developers a production-ready application container runtime and fully automated service deployments. With the flexibility to enforce platform-enforced policies and automated lifecycle management different users can be restricted to different spaces with different access permissions in each. The platform is well suited for continuous delivery strategy as it supports the full lifecycle, from initial development, through all testing stages, to deployment.
