It’s all about the moolah.. then why would some Bollywood stars risk it by producing movies? Because, the kind of publicity that movies get with merely star-names attached to them as producers, is enough to drive an audience to theatres. However the movie may be, the first few week’s collections are massive. This, of course, stands true for superstars with a large fan-following.

It’s also because most stars like to be on top of the game and have earned enough to produce their own movies and be their own bosses.

We’re here to fill you in about this trend and tell you which Bollywood celebrities are successfully running production houses.

Aamir Khan

When Aamir sets his mind to something, he aces it with sheer perfection. Such is the case with his production house as well. The first movie that he co-produced was Lagaan and it got an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign-Language Film!

Aamir Khan Productions has given us extraordinary hits since its inception 16 years ago. With movies like Taare Zameen Par, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Delhi Belly and Dangal, it might be the only celebrity production house with no flops.

His next project called Secret Superstar looks promising too, with a coming of age story of a young singer. Can’t wait!

Shahrukh Khan

King Khan likes to be in control of his films and as a producer, he gets to completely take over the project. He began his journey as a co-producer with Dreamz Unlimited in 1999 and later discovered Red Chillies Entertainment in 2005 with wife Gauri Khan.

His venture has produced movies like Main Hoon Na, Om Shaanti Om, Chennai Express and more recently Raees and Dear Zindagi. Apart from movies he has various television productions as well.

Shahrukh may not be too glad about the response he received for Ra.One and Harry Met Sejal, but not every Shahrukh movie can be a hit, can it?

John Abraham

John began his production house — John Abraham Entertainment Ltd with Vicky Donor in 2012. It’s unique message and brilliant cast made it a super hit in no time and bagged 3 National Awards including Best Film!

John has also produced Madras Cafe, — a critically acclaimed film that won a bunch of National awards as well — Rocky Handsome and Force 2.

Kudos to you, John! We wish to see more films from your production house soon.

Anushka Sharma

This Punjabi kudi has taken Bollywood by storm with her performance and she now co-owns a production house called Clean Slate Films with her fam-jam since 2014.

One of the aims of her production house is to back new talent and give them a platform. In NH10 we saw Neil Bhoopalam — theatre artist and ex-VJ — play Anushka’s husband. This movie was considered a sleeper hit and got critical acclamation as well.

Phillauri was her next release which didn’t do quite well at the box office but turned out to be a good one-time watch for some. Anushka’s just getting started and we hope to endure some great cinema from her upcoming projects!

Priyanka Chopra

Purple Pebble Pictures, catchy isn’t it? Priyanka is on a rollercoaster ride ever since she advanced to Hollywood and now she owns a production house too! Along with her mother, she kick started this venture in 2015.

Their company aims to produce small budget films, regional films and give way to new talent. In 2016, she produced a critically acclaimed comedy-drama Marathi film called Ventilator which won 3 National Film Awards.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us from this budding producer. Until then, we wish her the best!

There are many more celebrities of Bollywood that have turned into producers, for instance, Akshay Kumar with Grazing Goat Pictures and Ranbir Kapoor with Picture Shuru production to name a few.

Whatever these stars do, they never fail at entertaining us and giving us the best cinematic experiences!
