I am against the Billfold norm on this one! Partner and I have a budget that lists everything that is a “bill”, like the phone, utilities, and rent. After that, we figure out how much money we have to spend a week- usually about $500 for EVERYTHING ELSE. This is groceries, gas, going out, gifts, clothes, NYTimes subscriptions, everything. Most of this money gets taken out weekly in cash, and then we both know that the money we’re spending is in the same budget. When we try to do the same but with the card? Always go over. Let me know if this is interesting enough for a “doing money” Nicole- I doubt it, but I live my life and therefore am used to the cash system.
