There’s no doubt we shape our behavior based on the social environment we are being part of. And it’s true we tend to dismount all our mental scaffolds once we don’t need them anymore: when we’re alone.

Most of these mechanisms of adaptation are necessary, but wouldn’t be ideal to try to be ourselves in the middle of the rest of the world?

I believe it’d be less difficult if our reality wouldn’t change once we move from the people around us. We must shape the way we approach the world, but that doesn’t mean we have to change our reality, or ourselves.
