StarLaunch to Host Plutonians IDO

Space and Gaming
Space has captured the imagination of gamers over the decades, dating back as far as the 1970s with titles like Space Invaders and Lunar Lander. The human excitement about space and “beyond” was galvanized with the Apollo and Mars Rover missions and is set to increase as other aerospace organizations return humankind to space. The space genre is anticipated to remain a staple in the gaming industry, specifically the metaverse gaming industry, in the coming years. It should go without saying that we at StarLaunch are down with this vision and are excited to be partnering with our first space-themed gaming project.
Introducing Plutonians
Plutonians, the flagship metaverse space game from U.A. Fabrica gaming division, has been described as a hybrid mix of Homeworld and Escape Velocity — combining classic space-shooter combat with principles of open-world strategy and in-game building often seen in real-time RPG games. Plutonians is built on the WebXR and the Unreal 5 engines, meaning players will be able to enjoy the game in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in addition to traditional web and mobile platforms. Players are given access to a world, storyline and content editor to customize their gaming experience, as well as an in-game NFT marketplace to buy, sell or trade spaceship components of varying rarity. Spacecraft can be upgraded (e.g. with better weapons or warp drive technology) or bought and sold entirely in the marketplace.
The Plutonians ecosystem relies on a two-token model — Plutonian DAO ($PLD) as a fixed-supply governance token used to represent financial stake in the metaverse, and Republic Credits ($RPC) as an deflationary in-game currency used to facilitate all transactions.
Web3 Abstraction Set: Power to the Community
Plutonians is designed by U.A.Fabrica, a studio with a mission to support blockchain gaming development. They’ve built a high level interface for developers that will ease barriers to entry and make game creation more accessible to more talent. With their Unreal/Unity drag and drop plugins, developers can use Plutonians’ token for in-game transactions and their NFT management dashboard to mint and manage in-game items, all without prior blockchain expertise. Users, too, will have the freedom to create their own content in the Plutonians metaverse. U.A.Fabrica hopes to expand the game developer talent pool to millions of indie developers worldwide and bring hundreds of new blockchain and web3-enabled games to the space. Essentially, they took the term “metaverse” as more than just a buzzword and built something Neal Stephenson could be proud of.
Plutonians Timeline
Plutonians will be first released as a single-player web3-enabled campaign and will transition to an MMORPG by 2023. Thanks to the level and story editor, which will be released in March 2022, players will have access to the Plutonians expanded universe via community-created content and expansion packs that will allow them to continue their missions well beyond the main campaign. The public IDO is slated to occur in February 2022.
