Choosing your Faction Part 1: Lunatics
Within StarTerra’s Gamified Tiering system, IDO participants will have to strategize by choosing one of 3 Factions that will ultimately result in determining their final allocation size. Over the course of the next week, we’ll be breaking down each of the factions and eventually reveal how our gamified leaderboards will be an exciting feature of our launchpad!
Today, we’re starting off with the history of our first faction, the Lunatics…
Before Columbus-5 Mainnet, when the existence of Luna was brought upon through a cosmic shift in the Universe, Lunatics were a civilization that was in despair. A never ending cycle of wars between validators brought on by a depletion of resources almost led to a total destruction of their home planet as it began to run out of Ozone.
An expedition was commissioned in search of the missing gems for an upgrade that would help replenish the planet’s atmosphere! At the head of the expedition was the legendary gem hunter, Nicholas Flamel, onboard his vessel ‘Purple Frog.’ After spending many blocks at sea, after discarding many small caps that had no utility, Nicholas was starting to give up hope until one fateful day when the ship almost ran aground upon an icy island that hadn’t existed previously. There was an energy that drew Nicholas off his ship and he instructed his crew to set Anchor. After disembarking and touching support for the first time in blocks, he was eager to traverse the island. As the energy drew him to the center of the island, he started looking towards his analytical tools to try to discern what he was about to find. All indicators were pointing to his discovery going parabolic, which is when he knew he was about to stumble upon something unique! Then he laid his eyes upon it for the first time, the giant Luna gem — the missing element needed for Columbus 5 mainnet. With some Luna in his bag, he rushed his ship back to mainland, and began shilling this gem to anyone that would listen.
Over the next few blocks with William Chen as the lead Dev, lunatic’s scientists, developed and refined the tools to finally upgrade their civilization to the Columbus 5. This mainnet brought their planet Ozone which allowed for interoperability unsharing and an amazing era of peace and prosperity began.
Luna started to obtain a cult-like following, due in part to propaganda podcasts from Terra Bites, which pushed for it’s mass adoption. As more and more traders in their civilization adopted Luna, their civilization began discarding other ecosystems.
Lunatics began building temples and sanctuaries to protect the Luna Gem, where they worshiped it for its celestial powers. They began building more and more protocols that harnessed Luna’s energy to protect not only the Gem itself, but to help shield their ever evolving cities.
Then, with the integration of IBC, Lunatics became able to communicate with the entire Cosmos which led to the massive development of their civilization. As they started expanding away from their own planet and started discovering other lifeforms amongst the stars, they brought their beliefs with them.
Lunatics used Luna’s divine energy to guide them in spreading their gospel of how it brought peace and prosperity throughout the universe. However they found out they weren’t the only lifeforms that were able to harness its power. They then realized that not all lifeforms felt the same way about the Luna Gem.
Though they were able to unite different civilizations from across the universe, some of the factions they came across did much more than collect the luna as a store of value. Factions such as Degens sought to burn the Luna Gem for its powers while others, like Interstellars, extracted its energy to use for their magic. Lunatics couldn’t turn a blind eye to the factions abusing it’s power. The battle for Luna began, leading to countless wars and casualties spanning many, many blocks…
