If you’re running a small business — or are even a small cog in a big corporate machine — you may not have the time or financial resources to create social media’s №1 go to post: the Quote of The Day #qotd. After all, we’re not all Photoshop wizards!

Why Quotes?

Jump on to Instagram and the hashtag #quotes brings up 47,097,749 posts, and if you use #qotd you get a hefty 11,692,730 posts. That’s a lot of quotes swimming around the interwebs.

And while nothing trumps #cat with its 131,001,220 posts (cats’ reign over the internet remains unchallenged), quote posts are still thumb-stopping content that people love, and that people love to share!

Why they work is because the internet is our go-to for entertainment that makes us laugh or feel something. And that’s what quotes do. They make us LOL or feel inspired, motivated and supported.

It’s a kind of, “Hey, someone else thinks like me” moment. But if you’re fresh-faced on social media and want to work quotes into your weekly Facebook strategy, here’s my top tips for getting great quotes the easy way.

But first choose your style…

The first thing I would say before you dive in: choose your style. Some people like black text on a white background — like Simply Clean on Pinterest:

Or you could choose white text on a black background

You could also theme up your Instagram feed like Makaia Carr, with every third image being a quote:

4 Timesaving hacks for posting quotable quotes

1. Use Wordswag

The Wordswag app ($4.99) enables the easiest creation of quotes and will make you feel like a pro.

We’ve tried other apps, but reckon this one is the best. Yes, it costs a fiver, but is so worth it, as you can see if you’re wanting to be super creative:

But… the most shareable quotes tend to be the simplest, so decide what your goal is, and shape your quote graphics around that!

2. Use Canva

For Start Social Instagram we created ours using Canva — on desktop — to create a brand look and feel using our three Start Social colours:

We found and adapted a template that we liked to create two different styles of quote. Our ‘business hustle’ quotes:

And our social media inspo quotes:

3. Re-post them

The easiest way to share you favourite quotes is just to screenshot them and re-post them. Just jump on the hashtags #quotes or #qotd in Instagram and scroll through to find your favourites. You can also choose to acknowledge the RT (retweet) and tag in the account you got the quote from — this is Instagram best practice and might get you a new follower… people who love quotes love to follow quote accounts.

4. Get them from Pinterest

Pinterest is another huge resource for quotes. Depending on your brand, it’s worth creating an account just to get quotes. There are hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of quotes on Pinterest, and most look fab. PLUS you can find a section within quotes that works for your organisation:

Just build your own gallery for reference — you can even set it to private — and collate your faves. Log on on desktop or smartphone and save, copy and share!
