The bet is that you are in the minority. It would be interesting to know how many individuals would opt into paying a subscription monthly as opposed to being data mined and being the product on a daily basis.
The business model would shift drastically for companies like Facebook, their customers wouldn’t be advertisers and their product wouldn’t be the user or the data. But does that make Facebook as valuable ? Facebook inherently is purely a qualitative and quantitative data mining company. If Facebook switched to subscription, the users would have to think that Facebook is providing a valuable service and they understand the value it provides and are not willing to lose the service.
It would also be interesting to see how many have just given up on the privacy struggle.
