Recently, we wrote about how nanotechnology in decorative surfaces was becoming the way of the future due to the incredible attributes it houses such as scratch, stain and fingerprint resistant qualities. Now, one of the world’s most famous decorative surface produces, Cosentino, have incorporating nanotech into their leading surface.

Cosentino’s engineered stone product Silestone has VERY recently undergone its fourth evolutionary change since the product’s inception in 1990, adding another layer of characteristics to the already strong resume. These changes continue to improve on the products technical properties and further cement its place as a leading product in the industry.

The Silestone product is a quartz surface comprised of 90% natural quartz and is resistant to stains, scratches and absorption. The surface is incredibly popular and is available in over 90 different colours.

The 2017 addition of nanotechnology to the surface has been labeled ‘N-Boost’ by Cosentino, and comes after the 2005 creation of bacteriostatic protection for the material making it more suitable for hygienic use in a kitchen, and the 2012 creation of Silestone Suede — an advanced matt material.

The process involves a molecular modification of the material, which ultimately enhances the ease of cleaning and maintenance and also achieves greater intensity of colour. These features once again improve on the resistant capabilities the material already possesses. Silestone have dubbed this change their 4.0 revolution, predicting a bold change for quartz surfaces globally by incorporating this quality as an option for homeowners.

Initially, this technology will only be available in the sheets which come in the Eternal Collection, with the addition of the two ‘Iconic’ colours (white and black). Although it is presumable that the company will increase the range of both colours and thicknesses to coincide with growing demand if and when the new surface becomes a leading choice for designers and homeowners.
