Steelehouse Cinephile Fridays: The Big Short

It’s Cinephile Friday, which means it’s that time of the week when Steelehouse points you in the direction of a satisfying cinematic experience. This week, we recommend writer/director Adam McKay’s (Anchorman, Talladega Nights — yes, really) The Big Short. Nominated for Best Picture, it joined the crowded list of front-runners for the top prize this past week by snagging the Producers Guild Best Picture, traditionally a harbinger of Oscar gold. And even if the nominations and awards weren’t piling on, you would need to catch a viewing simply for the who-would’ve-guessed ensemble chemistry of Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Steve Carell.

The Big Short is nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor (for Christian Bale), and Film Editing.
