MasterCard with Apple Pay Users Can Travel for Free Around London
Free travel across London! — Sounds really fascinating, right? MasterCard will let you travel for free around London, one of the most expensive capitals in the world, on Mondays between November 23 and December 14, 2015, as long as you either have an Apple Watch or an Apple smartphone with a MasterCard account connected to the device.
Indeed, A Deal Worth Checking Out
Apple has teamed up with MasterCard to offer the new promotion aiming to raise adoption of Apple Pay.
MasterCard launched a limited “Fare Free Mondays” promo yesterday, which is offering free public transport to Apple Pay users in London. This will allow you to roam around London at no cost at all using any mode of transport that you prefer including Tube, buses, tram, DLR, London Overground and most National Rail services in London with their compliments as long as you touch in and out using Apple Pay on your Apple device.
Also, take note of the £27.90 refund, which is pretty much the max that you can claim and allows you to travel between 4:30 a.m. until 1 a.m.
“All passengers on London’s transport network touching in and out this way — whether visitors to London or regular commuters — will benefit from a refund of up to £27.90,”
A Slight Downside
The only disappointing thing is the offer doesn’t include any boat ride. And you might end up looking like a bit of a prat in case your flashy phone or watch fails to touch you in, leading you to annoy a load of irritable fellow commuters.
The Whole Process Should Take No More Than a Minute or So
Activating an iPhone to touch in and out at gates is very simple. Users can double-click the Home button when their iPhone is locked to access the Wallet and then touch it to the yellow reader. iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus users can add their MasterCard to Apple Pay in three simple steps:
- Open the Wallet app
- Tap the “+” plus sign in the upper right corner
- Enter your card’s security code to add your credit or debit card from your iTunes account. Or, select “Add a different card” and use your iSight camera to enter the card information.
Apple Pay is an iPhone-based mobile payments service that was expanded to the U.K. in July and is accepted at more than 250,000 locations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and recently gained support for Tesco Bank and TSB in the country alongside over 90 new U.S. issuers. The new offer now boosts its appeal.
MasterCard is a technology company in the global payments industry that operates the world’s fastest payments processing network, connecting consumers, financial institutions, merchants, governments and businesses in more than 210 countries and territories.
Now that Apple Pay has arrived nothing could be a better way to encourage MasterCard holding travelers on London’s transport network to try it out and give them another convenient option to pay for their travel.
