I love staying caught up on current political issues. I spent four hours last night watching congressional hearings on the IRS scandal on CSPAN. It’s interesting, it’s relevant, it’s entertaining… it’s temporal.
Many in the church today have confused things that are temporal with things that are eternal. The other day I was out in public wearing a Christian T-shirt and someone came up to me and starting talking politics and automatically assumed that we shared sentiments simply because of my T-shirt. This person had confused things that are temporary with that which is eternal. I simply told him, “Name one kingdom, country, nation that has stood the test of time.” He couldn’t. All of the kingdoms of men eventually fall. There is a kingdom that is eternal and stands the test of time.
So while I love politics and all of the drama that comes with it. I will always keep in perspective that what is happening today in the political arena is only temporary. I will also keep in mind that my primary responsibility is to help build the kingdom that will last forever, not build one that will fall eventually.
