I’m not particularly concerned with the raw numbers. They’re interesting to be sure, but not as a motivator. Instead, if those 3 readers who read to the end were greatly satisfied and affected by my story, then I consider it a success.

Rather, it’s more of a lament that more people aren’t willing to take a deep dive below the surface once in awhile. Indeed, though, the same goes for poetry. If T.S. Eliot posted The Wasteland today, how many reads would he get?
