The Internship : Revelation PDX

Day 1

At Epicodus, every student is given the opportunity to intern with a local tech company for 30 days. Many development bootcamps don’t offer this experience, I feel fortunate for the first hand experience of the day to day grind.

A small interview process between all the companies and students took place before the final matches were made. My deciding factors were:

  1. Fit and vibe: I wanted to be with a company who wanted to be with me. I wanted to gel and mesh with who I was collaborating with and feel like they wanted me there.
  2. The stack / technologies used. I didn’t want to be stuck learning languages or applications that I wasn’t entirely excited about at the moment — not to say that I’m not willing to learn these things, but I want to continue to build on the foundation that I’ve started for myself in this early part of my new career.
  3. The product. I was looking for a company that crafted web and mobile apps, and focused on great design and function for them both.

Out of all my interviews, I felt the most connected Revelation. They brought all of the above to the table, and Jonathan So (who interviewed me and is the Director of Engineering) is cool dude who cares about what he does and the community.

Today was the first day of my internship, nothing too crazy. Got in the office around 10, spent a few hours setting up our environment, lunch, discussion / overview of all the applications, and some debugging. I wish I had more to say, and I will as the internship progresses. I’ll post about my experience every few days, stay tuned.
