A message to my daughter as she graduates high school.
So before I share the message I sent my daughter the other day, I’ll just say, as a digital strategist it’s remarkable to observe how an 18 year old interacts with the world these days. I see her generation as the cross-over generation between the physical and virtual world. Sometimes I share deep thoughts with her in person or over the phone, other times I choose to send them as text messages because it’s one of the mediums she is most comfortable with.
Anyway, I could write a thousand pages on that and probably will sometime but for now, just a little note I sent her the weekend before her graduation while she was out of town..

Hey love. Just wanted to say hi. Miss you and thinking about you lots these days. Graduating is a weird time (as far as I remember). It’s the first time in your life that it’s really up to you who you are and what you do next. I know it’s a lot to think about.
I hope you know that your mom and I love you and are proud of who you are as a person.
Don’t stress too much about the future, but make sure you are taking time to think about what you want for yourself and what you deserve.
This is a really cool moment in your life to think about what you want to do with your time.. who you want to have around you.. what you want to be good at in life.. what will genuinely make you happy. You have the chance to define yourself now.
No one expects you to know exactly what you want to do for the rest of your life, but we hope that you’ll be curious.
Life takes work, but a life you work hard on is very rewarding.
Anyway, just thinking about you.
You should think about coming over to Bowen Island on Friday for a day or two to check it out and name a chicken and hang out with us.
Love you, hope you’re safe. See u tomorrow :)
