“Equivalence” is a destructive insistence, usually by the side tht cannot otherwise justify its voice.

If one point of view, for instance, demands removal of health insurance with NO alternate plan for for 22 million persons, that view is illegitimate and deserves no respect (unless one gives not a whit about their fellow man, in which case that is simply psychotic).

If one point of view actively denies concrete scientific knowledge of man-made climate change (or tobacco’s cancer causing effect, historically), that point of view has no equivalence to actual knowledge.

“Equivalence” is the insistence of those whose position has no merit.
