How to Not Give a Fuck About Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day sucks for a lot of people.

Society tells us that it is wrong to be alone; that we’re somehow incomplete; that all we need is a special someone.

Fuck that. What the fuck is society? Who is actually doing the pressuring? A blogger? An ad? Go on. Name one person.

Next, analyze that person.
Find out their hang-ups, their assumptions, their values, their motives.
Chances are their perceived “authority” will vanish before your eyes.

Society is not a real thing.
It’s nothing more than a temporary snapshot of some of the influences you currently hold in your recent memory.
In essence, it’s a thought.
A thought that’s trapped in your brain.
Stop thinking about things that aren’t real.

Focus on what is real.
Focus on WHO is real.
Focus on which people matter to you.

If you want to have a good Valentine’s Day, or any day, do something nice for the people you care about.
Utilize your natural creativity.
Generate something that the world (or at least your world) has never seen. Perhaps a kind thought, selflessly delivered, to someone you care about.

“Have I mentioned lately how much I appreciate you? You really are special to me.”

Perhaps an honest solicitation of someone’s feelings. Lend them an open ear and let them talk about what’s on their mind.

“I really value hearing what you have to say.”

Don’t spend your time this Valentine’s Day worrying about why no one loves you.

Spend your time loving.
