My Experience in obtaining C of O in Kaduna: Temitayo

Temitayo Omole,a resident of Tsaunin Kura GRA in Sabon Tasha area of Chikun Local Government, has described services rendered by Kaduna Geographic Service (KADGIS) as “top class”. He narrated how he registered his landed property in 37 minutes through a system that he said “is devoid of corruption”.

Temitayo’s testimony reflects that of many individuals, organisations and business who have dealings with KADGIS in land matters in Kaduna. “This is the first and best government service I have ever experienced anywhere in Nigeria as a citizen. It took 37 minutes from the time I entered KADGIS to registered my intention to re certify my papers and the time I finished all the process including taking photographs, completing application form and giving the right information and paying the right amount of money into the right bank account. I was also not the only one, we were about 40 and it took 37 minutes to complete the process.

Another resident of Kaduna, Rabiu Aliyu, described as dramatic, land reforms introduced by the Government of Kaduna State spearheaded by KADGIS. “I have been dealing with Ministry of Lands, Kaduna since 1976. For 40 years I was scared to visit the Ministry, because of frustrations in dealing with them. You could only deal through agents and messengers.

“Officials lock themselves in their offices and attend to you through the window. I was surprised to receive a text that my CofO was ready for collection. I visited and in 3 minutes I was shown the CofO and the outstanding bill I should pay before collection. What a surprise, I never thought that place could ever be sanitized”.

KADGIS has since launched the Systematic Land Registration exercise aimed at registering all lands. Governor Nasir El-Rufai explained that “In the next few years we will ensure that every land and property in Kaduna is registered. This will eliminate fraud in land transaction in the state. Those officials in the ministry of land who hide people’s files and use sharp practices will have no business in Kaduna state.

“I am calling on all property owners in Kaduna whether they have papers or not to present any kind of evidence either from their ward or village heads or any witnessed showing they are they owners, and KADGIS will issue you a new computerized paper.
