I don’t really agree with that. Have people forgotten so quickly “It’s the economy, stupid”. To my mind it was not wrong to focus on economic security (as that was the basis of the general election win just a year before) but the error was choosing to make a case that was neither positive nor accessible, which meant no meaningful economic case at all.
