It Takes Two Hands

Let go, because it takes two hands.

It’s not really about letting go in the physical sense. She is already gone. You’re each already living your shiny new separate lives. This is about letting go to move on. This is about letting go to free yourself.

Let go, because with one hand holding on you won’t be ready to catch or embrace the good things you’ll find hurtling towards you.

Let go because you might need both hands to gather your world up when it feels like everything is spinning off into the ether. You might need to remind yourself that these are the things that matter, just the people and ideas that fit in your armspan orbit.

Let go, because when life really pushes you to the edge you just might just need both hands to hang on.

Let go for that part of you that still believes you could flap your arms wildly and maybe, just maybe, take off into the sky. You’ll need both wings for that.

Let go to make room for that heavy load you choose to carry, rather than the encumbrance you feel was dumped on you through circumstance. Weight on your shoulders will make you feel accomplished as long as it’s your decision to carry it.

Let go, because the reality is this: At best all you’ll find in that clasped hand is a shadow of what you once held. Don’t forget, but remember to dwell in the present. The tighter you hold on to a memory, the more you shape it into a fiction.

Look at your two hands, free of the baggage, and remember that they are strong. These two hands will wield the tools you’ll use to build this new life.
