Camping is a great activity for all types of people to enjoy. It brings you closer to nature and it allows you to know part of yourself that is primal and that you can only interact with when you get back to the very basics. Camping and hiking cater to our basic human instincts and our ability to survive and thrive in the outdoors. Only of the few things that can enhance that experience is when you share it with a loved one. Here at Sudir Raju’s blog, we have talked about camping with your dog and even hiking with the family, but today we want to talk about some of the things to consider when you are visiting the outdoors with your significant other and want to make it a memorable experience. Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia and the surrounding territories are great hiking and camping destination due to the number of parks, trails, and campgrounds that serve residents and visitors who come looking for amazing experiences. Take the chance today and create a wonderful experience together spending some time with nature and with each other.

Start Small

This is something you should consider if either of you or perhaps both, are new to camping. You do not want to go at it at full speed. Make sure you start with smaller adventures first. Maybe you want to plan a short day-hike or even camping overnight at a place that is not too far from home and that offers some basic comforts. Starting small and scaling up as you go is a great way to get used to outdoor activities and learn to love them. You do not want this new experience to become a new source of stress or to be something unpleasant for both of you. It happens sometimes that there are couples who find the idea of camping together a lot more appealing than the actual reality of spending a night in the woods, and is why we recommend you to take it slow and figure out if it is for you.

Pack the right gear

People obsess overweight when it comes to camping and hiking. It is a never-ending struggle to pack the lightest and to learn to reduce your needs to the bare minimum so you can make it out there for a long time needing fewer things every time. When it comes to camping for couples, but actually recommend the opposite. Go for comfort before you start thinking about weight. You are just starting out, you shouldn’t worry about that just yet and instead focus on making your experience as enjoyable as possible so you both can start creating good memories and a great atmosphere around your relationship with the outdoors.

When choosing a tent, make sure to go bigger than you think, for example, we recommend you to use a four-person tent for two people, so you can have enough space to be comfortable and to store your packs as well. Sleeping bags and mats are necessary and you should pick some that are comfortable enough for you to sleep well. Make sure you test them before you take them out there. It is a great idea to do a mockup sleep test in your own bedroom using the floor if you need to, that way you won’t have to deal with nasty surprises when you are out in the woods.

Make it special

Camping or hiking is just half of the experience. Think about the meals you will have to share and all the other activities you can do together to spend the time out there. We have talked about the many activities people use to pass the time while camping and some of them include photography, drawing, journaling, cooking and even playing games. Everything you do out there will be so much better if you are enjoying it with your loved one.

Cooking together is a great way to strengthen your relationship and your bond together. Camping sometimes makes people think that they should just eat whatever is easier and they end up eating canned food for the duration of their trip. It doesn’t have to be this way and you can use this opportunity to go all and ensure that each meal is an experience. Look at recipes, prep beforehand and get creative. This is a great opportunity to show off your skills to your loved one and bring you both closer together.

If you have a hobby that you can practice in the outdoors like photography or journaling, use this opportunity to do it together and to make it an activity that gives you an opportunity to create more memories as a couple. Being outdoors can bring the best out of people and that is why we recommend for you to plan accordingly and to really cherish these opportunities and make the best out of them.
