On Friday, the U.S. assassinated Iran’s second most powerful leader, General Qassim Suleimani. Suleimani was leaving Baghdad airport when a U.S. drone strike killed him.

Suleimani was not a good person. He led Iranian military efforts across the region, including the defense of Syria’s dictatorship in its brutal war. But U.S. hostilities with Iran go back to before Suleimani was even born. In 1953, the U.S. overthrew Iran’s democratically elected government and replaced it with a king.

Remember: Saddam Hussein’s brutality did not make the U.S. invasion of Iraq a wise or moral decision. Trump’s latest assassination is a reckless action that could launch a war. Countless people have already died in the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, including many U.S. soldiers.

How do we stop Trump from backing the U.S. into a war?

Step 1: Call your member of Congress right now and tell them that you oppose a U.S. war with Iran: (202) 224-3121

Every Republican and Democrat in Congress needs to hear from voters right now. It’s just that simple. This is an election year, and politicians are paying close attention.
